Full coalition meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  We usually do not meet in July and December.

Our meetings alternate between the Tomah Police Department's Community Room (Tomah) and Mayo Clinic's 4th flor conference room in Sparta.

Work Groups:

At this time, most work groups meet at Couleecap in Sparta (217 N. Black River Street)

Prescription Drug Workgroup - no regularly scheduled meetings at this time.  Please contact Natalie (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to become involved with this work.  

The Prescription Drug Work Group will continue MCSCC programming pertaining to Prescription Drug issues in Monroe County. Some examples of work the Prescription Drug Work Group has done or will do are:

• Promote permanent medication drop box locations and proper medication disposal through flyers and social media.

•  Investigate how we can support county/state/national prescription drug or opiate legislation.

• Maintain current medication return boxes in the county and support the proper disposal of prescription drugs/medications.

• Influence provider prescribing practices through the ongoing relationship with Mayo Clinic via PDMP education, CMEs, and other opportunities.

• Build capacity of prescription drug workgroup to continue prevention efforts after the DFC grant ceases.

•  

  Get signed letters of support for continued work with the coalition after the DFC grant ceases.

Alcohol Workgroup - meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 9:30 - 11:00 am  and alternates between Couleecap in Sparta and the Tomah Police Department.

The Alcohol Work Group will continue MCSCC programming pertaining to Alcohol issues in Monroe County. Some examples of work the Alcohol Work Group has done or will do are:

• Alcohol Compliance Checks:

  • Continue incentive programConduct quarterly throughout Monroe County
  • Track outcome data from the compliance checks conducted and share data with the public regarding those that passed

• Follow recommendations from Julia Sherman, Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project Coordinator, regarding alcohol related policy issues and current, local changes in Monroe County.

• Educate the public on risks and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol.

• Provide DITEP (Drug Impairment Training for Educational Professionals) training in Monroe County. 

•  Build capacity of alcohol workgroup to continue prevention efforts after the DFC grant ceases. 

•  Get signed letters of support for continued work with the coalition after the DFC grant ceases.

   

Marijuana Workgroup- no regularly scheduled meetings at this time.  Please contact Natalie (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to become involved with this work. 

• Create and distribute popcorn bags with marijuana prevention messaging.

• Update Burden of Marijuana Report.

• Continue collecting data in regards to marijuana use locally from law enforcement, emergency rooms, employee assistance programs, poison control, etc.

• Continue to collect tories about local issues around marijuana.

• Continue to conduct educational presentations on the negative impact of marijuana use to build capacity.

• Address through education and advocacy, local and state marijuana legislation issues.

• Build capacity of marijuana workgroup to continue prevention efforts after the DFC grant ceases.

• Get signed letters of support for continued work with the coalition after the DFC grant ceases.

 Operations Work Group - usually meets the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:00 - 2:30 pm

The Operations work group will help coordinate the marketing, fundraising and membership components for the MCSCC. Some examples of work the Operations Work Group has done or will do are:

• Biannually report coalition outcomes to funders, policy makers, community members, and other stakeholders.

• Create and utilize opportunities to collaborate more with other organizations/businesses.

• Increase coalition presence in the community among “general population”, not just professionals through the news and social media.

• Review the strategic plan and monitor progress quarterly.

• Utilize the 12 Month Coalition Action Plan to monitor MCSCC’s performance.

• Build capacity of operations workgroup to continue MCSCC efforts after the DFC grant ceases.

• Get signed letters of support for continued work with the coalition after the DFC grant ceases.

• Explore funding opportunities for continuation of planned activities upon completion of year 10 of DFC grant.

• Support the sustainability workgroup and monitor/ensure progress on the sustainability plan
